Performers from Fantasia Performance Arts Center,
at the New Year Festival March 5.

CCSS celebrated the Year of the Dog by hosting its 28 th annual Chinese New Year Festival on Sunday, March 5, at the Stockton Civic Auditorium. Despite the rainy day, thousands of visitors showed up to participate in the festivities, taking in the spectacular dance artisty depicting classic Chinese novels, savoring the delicious food, and patronizing art and crafts vendors offering a bit of Chinese culture. And to round off the festivities of the Year of the Dog, animals from the Stockton Police Department K-9 unit and the San Joaquin Kennel Club performed and strutted on stage.

Fantasia Performing Arts Center was the centerpiece of the entertainment program, dancing vignettes from The Monkey King and the Dreams of the Red Chamber, centuries old classics of Chinese literature. The program also featured local talent in folk dances, martial arts, and song.

Missed this year's Festival? Put the next one on your calendar, the first Sunday in March, 2007. We'll be celebrating the Year of the Boar.
